That is an $8.50 annual difference for the same TLD, but it is a dated comparison, not a promise about today's price or every domain extension.

The short answer is conditional. Spaceship had the lower verified renewal price for all four TLDs in this comparison. Namecheap remains the more mature option, with established documentation and 24/7 support. Either registrar can work with Vercel, and buying a domain through Vercel is also a legitimate option when simpler setup matters more than registrar choice.

Renewal prices, not just year-one prices

Both registrars labeled their first-year offers as promotional when Afftera checked them. Renewal is the recurring number, so it is the more useful baseline for a domain you expect to keep.

These prices were verified in USD on September 3, 2026 from the registrars' public pricing pages. The pages also disclosed a $0.20 annual ICANN fee for affected TLDs at both vendors, while the Spaceship snapshot showed no ICANN fee for .io or .ai. How Spaceship and Namecheap are related

Namecheap officially introduced Spaceship as its new domain and web-services platform in 2023. The same announcement identifies Spaceship as a trademark of Namecheap, Inc. That supports describing Spaceship as a Namecheap brand, but it does not establish that the products share the same team or that Spaceship is a subsidiary.

Privacy, forwarding, DNS, and support

WHOIS privacy was free on eligible TLDs at both registrars in the reviewed evidence. Both also offered email forwarding for up to 100 aliases. Those features were therefore parity points in this comparison, subject to the stated eligibility and quantity limits.

The DNS tools differ. Spaceship documented Preset Manager, Advanced DNS records, and DNSSEC. Namecheap documented BasicDNS and PremiumDNS, and its support was available 24/7. Afftera's evidence supports giving Namecheap the edge specifically on platform maturity and documentation depth, not on untested support quality or reliability.

Connecting either registrar to Vercel

Your Vercel dashboard shows the web records for your specific project. A typical setup uses an A record for the apex and a project-specific CNAME for www, but you should copy the values shown in your own project rather than generic values from a tutorial.

Changing the web records does not require replacing the MX records that route email. Vercel does not provide email service, so mail remains managed elsewhere. Preserve the existing MX records and any required SPF, DKIM, verification, or autodiscovery records unless your mail provider instructs you to change them.

Which option fits your project?

Choose Spaceship when your exact TLD has a lower current renewal price and you are comfortable using a newer platform. Choose Namecheap when portfolio consolidation, mature tooling, documentation, or 24/7 support matters more than the verified price difference. Consider buying through Vercel when you prefer its managed DNS setup, but check the renewal price and remember that email still requires a separate provider.
